Pregnancy Myth 1: Avoid having Sea Food
This myth does have some truth in it. For example, we are advised not to eat seafood with high amounts of mercury when it comes to seafood. This is because mercury can be harmful to a developing baby’s brain.
But it doesn’t mean you should stop having seafood at all. On the contrary, having fish high in Omega 3 fatty acids is essential for a baby’s healthy development. So make sure to limit seafood to only lower-mercury options like light tuna, Shrimp, Salmon, Catfish, and Tilapia.
Pregnancy Myth 2: Avoid Cold Water
Another popular myth comes from our ancestors. It is aid that drinking cold water during pregnancy can cause miscarriages and make the baby bigger. This is not scientifically true and has nothing to do with the claims. Most of our friends or family are seen drinking cold water even during pregnancy.
The only reason you are advised against drinking cold water is to be cautious when you have flu. If you are prone to having flu and other respiratory illnesses, avoid cold drinks. This will help you be healthy enough to carry your baby without any issues.
Pregnancy Myth 3: Alcohol will make the baby active
Do not fall for this one. No matter what you eat or drink usually, your baby stays inactive. It is something you should already believe since alcohol is overall unhealthy substance use.
Alcohol has been said to be very unhealthy for the growing fetus. Therefore, regular alcohol consumption should be avoided, resulting in various congenital disabilities and long-term medical conditions.
Pregnancy Myth 4: Eat a lot of food as It Is For Two
Is that the glutton-ish part of you speaking? Keep eating for two and watch how you become multiple sizes up.
You do not need to eat more than the required daily calories. If you add an extra 300-400 Maximum, that could be fine. You do not need to eat twice everything around you.
There is no such thing as eating for two, so if you carry a sextuplet, you will eat for 6? Of course not!
You need to eat healthily, pay attention to your eating habits, and ensure they are clean and suitable for your growing fetus. Also, eat at the right time. Have some snack time in between -Crackers or an apple would do.
Pregnancy Myth 5: If you have severe Morning sickness, You will have a boy
This is a BIG myth. It should be 100% untrue. Many women have suffered severe morning sickness and still delivered baby girls. It is not directly proportional. Mind what you believe. Pregnancy symptoms are not suggestive of finding a baby’s gender.
Pregnancy Myth 6: If your belly points upward, it’s a girl, and if downwards, it’s a boy
Is pregnancy a compass that you can predict what north, south, east, and west represents?
Many women have used this method and only ended up breaking the bank because they bought the wrong clothes. So don’t fall for this myth and take yourself to the hospital to get an ultrasound done. Thankfully this technology exists today.
