How To Recreate The Latest Runway Trends Of Makeup
Season after season, makeup artists create a variety of runway looks that reflect the collections of designers. Although some beauty trends fade quickly after models finish strutting down the catwalk, others capture women’s attention, making them eager to find a way to translate the latest fashion into their daily lives. That’s where you come in.
Here Are 5 Easy Runway Makeup Looks That You Can Recreate At Home:
- Shine On
This season’s runways featured dazzling eyelids, with makeup artists experimenting with everything from glitter to rhinestones to create a sparkling finish. Create a more toned-down version of the trend for an everyday look. Stick to shimmery eyeshadows in greens, coppers, and golds, or add subtle glitter to the lids with a highlighter. Try loose cosmetic glitter if you want extra drama for a night out. Create a tacky base to prevent fall-out. Apply clear lip gloss to the lid, then use a small brush to apply and push the glitter into place. Use eyelash adhesive instead if you’re working with oversized glitter or rhinestones.
Pro Tip: To create a foiled look, spritz an eyeshadow brush with a setting spray before applying the color.
- Gone Grung
Lips this season had a moody, off-beat feel, with women wearing shades ranging from rich chocolate and black to two-tone teal and purple. The bold colors look great on the runways. But, Jade Munson, global brand ambassador for Ardell Beauty, recommends sticking to more wearable hues with a matte finish for everyday wear, such as merlot, berry, or plum. Models often sported “stained” lips, with color concentrated in the middle and fading out at the sides — and no lip liner was visible. Munson suggests using a lip stain to achieve this “post-popsicle” look, instead of traditional lipstick or gloss, and patting the color onto the middle of the lips with your fingertips.
Pro Tip: For precise use, always use a lip brush, then apply concealer to clean up the lip line.
- Do the Dew
Fresh, radiant skin is still in, serving as a canvas for a bold lip or smoky eye and the focal point of models’ overall looks. To embrace the ‘less is more’ trend, you must first have healthy, radiant skin. Therefore, a regular skincare routine that suits your needs is essential. Always moisturize after gently exfoliating the skin to remove dull surface cells. Once you’ve prepped your skin, apply your base, which could be a tinted moisturizer or a high-definition foundation.
Kelly prefers to use half the amount of foundation she might usually use on a whole face and softly pressing it onto the skin with a flat foundation brush only if there is discoloration, redness, or breakouts. This process prevents a cakey finish and enables the skin to shine through. To complete the look, add warmth and illumination with a contour kit.
Pro Tip: To prevent a heavy look, skip the powder and use a sheer, color-correcting foundation instead.
- Brow Wow
Bleached, ombre, and even a unibrow—this season’s arches were all over the place. But they all had one thing in common: a fluffed-up, “masculine” look. Full, natural brows are a must-have this summer.
What’s the best part? Unlike the perfectly sculpted looks currently trending on Instagram, the so-called boy brow is easy to create. The trick is to add volume using a fine-tip filler to fill in sparse areas with light, hair-like strokes. Apply brow gel in upward and outward strokes for a natural finish. Though it may be tempting to mimic the runway’s exaggerated arches, Munson advises toning down the product. Keep them a little neater for daily wear, and just draw additional hair strokes where needed. To achieve the most natural look, draw in the direction of hair growth.
Pro Tip: Choose a brow color that complements your complexion and blends in with your hair color.
London Fashion Week: You Can Recreate The Latest Runway Trends
For another year, London Fashion Week has come to an end. Designers revisited traditional trends with a modern twist this season. We’ve chosen a couple of our favorites that you can easily adapt into your wardrobe, and best of all, you may be able to transform your current wardrobe to achieve these trends rather than investing in new garments. Victory!
1. A Modern Twist On The Classic Trench Coat
Is the trench coat ever out of fashion? We don’t think so, which is why it’s no surprise that they’ve been all the rage last year and will continue to be. Designers have given new life to timeless classics. The trench coat may be dressed for more than one occasion with the addition of tie waistbands, strappy cuffs, and decorative buttons. Burberry and Gareth Pugh took this a step further, displaying trench coats with feather tops, brass embellishments, and hot-pink shiny splashes of color.
Get the look: The sky is the limit. Modernizing your classic trench coat with a little creativity is a simple yet effective way of giving it new life. Embellish the collar, add eye-catching buttons, and reline with leopard print (or any other print you fancy)
2. The Retro Suit
This LFW, the trouser suit, was in full effect, and it’s a style that isn’t meant to be limited to the office. Although simple practicality remains at the core of the trouser suit, Alexa Chung showed that a statement shirt and matching waistcoat are enough to put the ‘power’ in the word ‘power suit.’ In keeping with her polished style, Victoria Beckham’s collection included an all-white trouser suit.
Get the look: The trick to this style is perfect tailoring and color blocking. If you have the perfect smart trousers in a statement color, you can make a waistcoat to match. Alternatively, if you have a suit that seems to be a little old, you can completely transform the color with a bespoke color treatment. Find a contrasting shirt with a different block color, and you’re done.
3. Asymmetric Hem
The asymmetric hem, perhaps the easiest of all trends, was showcased by many designers this LFW. From polka dot print tops to flower skirts, the asymmetric hem became popular on the runway, as exhibited by designers such as Halpern. This trend works well on skirts, tops, and dresses, and we especially like it when paired with a printed fabric.
Get the look: Bring out your light and airy printed garments, such as maxi or midi skirts, and dresses are ideal. Simply decide how drastic you want your hem to be and choose ‘shortening services’ from alterations services.
