Melasma is also known as the “mask of pregnancy” is the other name for pigmentation. Melasma is a skin condition due to sun exposure. It is a common skin condition among women but men can also get it. Brown or blue-gray patches appear on the skin when a person is prone to melasma. Most people get skin discoloration on their forehead, their cheeks, nose, and on their upper lips.

The cause behind this disorder is the hormonal changes that occur in the body. During pregnancy, there is an increase in the level of estrogen hormone which causes the blood vessels to expand and increase the melanin production. This leads to an increased amount of melanocytes produced within the epidermis. Birth control pills can also hormonal imbalance and they can also be a reason for melasma.

Remedy # 1 – Lemon Juice For Melasma
How To Use It?
- Take 1tbs of lemon juice and apply it to the affected area of your face.
- Gently rub it on the discolored skin for 1 or 2 minutes.
- After that leave it for 20 minutes before rinsing it off.
- After 20 minutes wash your face with Luke’s warm water.
Benefits Of Lemon Juice:
Lemon is a great source of vitamin C. The excessive use is of vitamin C very helpful to control melasma. When you apply lemon juice to your skin then it cleans your skin’s open pores and kills all germs. This lemon juice removes the outer layer of your skin so it removes the melasma skin. Repeat this remedy two times daily for three weeks.
However, acidity from lemons can cause irritation to your skin so be careful of your skin type. Do a patch test and then apply if it is safe to be applied to your skin.
Remedy # 2 – Apple Cider Vinegar
The most popular and effective vinegar is apple cider vinegar. The apple cider vinegar has extremely acidic. It is most helpful to remove dark spots from your skin and clean up your skin’s open pores. This vinegar makes your skin clean, smooth, and radiant.

- Apple cider vinegar
Procedure
- Take a bowl and add 1tbs of water to it.
- Now add apple cider vinegar with the same amount of water 1tbs.
How To Use It
- Apply this mixture to the affected area of your skin which is prone to melasma.
- Now leave it on to air dry for some minutes.
- Now wash your face with lukewarm water and dry your face.
- Apply this mixture twice or thrice daily or use just one time a day.

Remedy #3 – Turmeric For Melasma
Turmeric is most effective for all skin diseases. It helps to get rid of skin acne, and white and blackheads, clean open pores and are especially used to remove dark spots like melasma. Turmeric cures your skin from pigmentation which is also called Melasma. The properties of active ingredients in turmeric are very helpful to lighten dark skin and spots. It helps to lower excess melanin production. Using turmeric is the fastest way to get rid of melasma.
Procedure
- Take a clean dry bowl.
- Add 5tbs of turmeric powder and 10tbs of milk.
- Mix it well and make a soft and thick paste. (Milk has more quantity of calcium and lactic acid in it to cure your dead skin cells.)
- Now add 1tbs of gram flour to make the thick paste.
- Mix it well and apply to your skin and leave it for 20 minutes.
- When you feel that your face dries then wet your face with lukewarm water.
- Now rub your face gently in a circular motion for 2 or 3 minutes.
- After this, you wash your face with lukewarm water and dry it softly with a towel.
Remedy #4 – Onion Juice For Melasma
Without onion the treatment of melasma is incomplete. Onion contains sulfur which helps to get rid of melasma and remove the dark skin areas on your face.

- Take two or three onions.
- Peel it off and chop these onions.
- Turn these onions into a soft paste.
- Now place it into a cheesecloth and extract the juice.
- Now take a bowl and add 1tbs of onion juice to it.
- Include 1tbs of apple cider vinegar in it.
- Now mix both well and apply on problem areas of your skin with a cotton ball.
