Face masks have been a staple in many people’s self-care regimes for years, but have you ever tried one with CBD oil? Cannabidiol (CBD) has slowly made its way into many areas of the beauty and skincare industry. Several popular make-up brands are carrying products boasting the hydrating and soothing effects that CBD brings to their products and we agree! CBD holds several benefits for your skin.
Let’s get into a face mask with CBD oil for your next “spa day”.
What is CBD?
CBD oil is an extract of Cannabis indica or Cannabis sativa—the same plants that, when dried, make marijuana. It is believed by some to treat pain, reduce anxiety, and stimulate appetite in the same way that marijuana does, but without its psychoactive effects. CBD has also shown promise in treating certain types of seizures.
The short name for cannabidiol is CBD, one of the two chemicals—among the dozens in cannabis—that have the most health benefits. The other, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), produces the psychoactive effects described as being “high.” CBD oil generally does not contain THC, although some trace amounts may be present in products sold in certain states.
CBD oil contains CBD mixed with inert carrier oil, such as coconut oil or hemp seed oil. The bottled oil, called a tincture, is sold in various concentrations. There are also CBD capsules, CBD gummies, and under-the-tongue CBD sprays.
Benefits of a Face mask with CBD oil.
So far, what we know is that CBD may help reduce redness, dryness, and inflammation. It also has the potential to treat eczema and psoriasis. When extracted and infused into an oil, it may be beneficial for your skin. Using CBD daily may help keep inflammation at bay. This may prove to be a nice supplement or gentler alternative to topical steroid treatments.
CBD is not only a potential anti-inflammatory agent. It contains a healthy dose of vitamin D. A recent study in Clinical Therapeutics (2019) found that CBD infused ointment may significantly improve your skin. Researchers are discovering that it may hydrate the skin and increase elasticity.
Would you like to hear the best part? CBD isn’t going to do anything bad to your face. While its benefits still need more study, CBD isn’t harmful to your skin. That’s what makes it such an optimal additive to beauty products. It’s all-natural, and cannot worsen skin diseases. If anything, this may help.
Incorporating CBD oil into your face care.
Now that CBD has been legalized in the U.S. through the 2018 Farm Bill, it’s easier than ever to get your hands-on CBD-infused beauty products. It is just as easy to make your own. With some CBD oil, you can concoct lotions, ointments, and creams in your home. You can also blend up ingredients from your kitchen to make your simple face mask.
Try searching for a DIY face mask on the internet and you’ll come up with countless options. Which recipes are best for making a cannabis face mask? You can add CBD oil to any face mask recipe that is oil-based.
What you will need to make a face mask with CBD Oil?
- 1 ripe organic avocado
- 1/4 cup of cannabis oil of your choice
- 2 teaspoons of spirulina powder
- Several drops of fragrant essential oil. Chamomile, lavender, and tea tree are all very skin-friendly
- Large make-up application brush or shaving brush that you don’t mind getting clogged with organic face mask
- Blender or food processor
How to make a cannabis face mask?
- Slice open the avocado and remove the pit. Scoop out the meat into the food processor.
- Add in your CBD oil.
- Add the spirulina powder. If you only have tablets crush them with a mortise and pestle first or they may harm the processor blades. Alternatively, soak tablets in a small amount of water until they are dissolved or gelatinous.
- Combine ingredients in the food processor until they are completely emulsified and the mix looks like green cake frosting.
You could probably eat this mix. Spread it on toast or use it as the base for guacamole. It would be impossibly bland though. Spread on your face is a completely different story. This funky green paste is brimming with skin-friendly essential oils, vitamins, omegas, essential fatty acids, and lipoproteins.
Before application, steam your skin to open the pores ready to receive their cannabis therapy. Wipe your face over several times with a hot moist towel. Not hot enough to burn, though. Or boil some water and fill a heat-proof bowl. Drape a towel over the back of your head as you lean over the steamy bowl. Don’t dip your face in the scolding water, just enjoy the mini steam room for ten minutes.
Before your skin cools, apply the face mask. With your fingers is mushy fun. With a brush there’s no cleanup, just apply, kick back and enjoy.
After 20 minutes, rinse with warm water to reveal noticeably fresher skin.
