Now that 2020 is coming to an end, it’s pretty obvious that the past year has been a big one for so many celebrities — in more ways than one. In reality, so many dramatic celebrity weight loss transformations have already happened this year. And most of them have been all about showcasing the improvements they’ve made on social media. And those who remain a little quiet about their personal lives (such as Adele, for example)? Well, seeing pictures of them out and about in the last few months is enough to convince us that they have prioritized fitness.
Here are all the celebrities/influencers who have lost their weight this year. We will forever be impressed by their hard work and motivation. Despite exhausting schedules and the fact that some have their own families. It’s just to see what people are capable of when they put their minds to something. And the help of a personal trainer and chef can’t hurt either.
Are you looking for the push to get off the couch and go to the gym? These celebrity transformations may be just a trick to help us all get a little more active in our everyday lives.
Chris Pratt
Why He Did It: Chris Pratt has been cut multiple times in his career, including in preparation for Zero Dark Thirty and Moneyball. But his transformation to the Guardians of the Galaxy has shaped him. Pratt dropped 60 pounds to play Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians.
What He did: As Pratt put it to Men’s Health, he did “three to four hours a day of just consistent, ass-kick hard work.” Pratt worked with a personal trainer doing P90X workouts, boxing, kickboxing, running, cycling, and triathlon to get in shape. Pratt collaborated with the trained six days and a week to set up the Guardians and the Jurassic World.
What he ate: Pratt changed around his diet. He did this by improving things by eating 4,000 calories a day to load up with lean muscle.
His Workout: Pratt outlined his Galaxy Guardians’ workout for Men’s Fitness. This revealed how he got a six-pack after becoming a bit bulky for his role as Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation.
Chris Says: After losing weight, Pratt said he was committed to remaining ripped: “It gave me a sense of absolute control.“
A well-known celebrity, whose fitness transformation was to gain rather than loosing.
Chris Hemsworth
What He Did: Hemsworth packed 20 pounds of muscle by eating regularly.
Why He did it: For his leading role in the action-packed blockbuster Thor.
What He Ate: Hemsworth went for high-protein meals but still focused on unprocessed carbohydrates like fruit to help rebuild muscles by slowing down the breakdown of muscle protein. Fiberglass-rich vegetables improved his cardiovascular health and muscle regeneration. He made sure that what he was eating counted. He decided that he would eat quinoa instead of rice, so he had protein, good fats, and fewer carbs.
His Workout: Before Thor, sports such as cycling, boxing, and rugby kept Hemsworth fit. But for the film, he started to get serious about lifting, varying weights, reps, and pace, so that his muscles are continuously working-out. Minor changes, such as swapping hand positioning on a pull-up, will stimulate muscles in new ways. Mixing it up is vital no matter what kind of muscle you’re looking for.
Plus: Hemsworth bulked up so much that he didn’t fit into any of his costumes.
Chris says I feel like I’ve been busy, but all I’ve been doing is eating the whole day. It’s exhausting to eat because you’re not hungry and eat that much amount of food. Wasn’t this an interesting fitness transformation?
Christian Bale
What he did: Bale dropped from 180 pounds to 120 pounds. Then he bulked up to 220 pounds back.
Why he did it: Display an anorexic, insomniac factory worker in The Machinist, then be Batman in The Dark Knight.
What He Ate: To lose weight, Bale went to starvation, eating a can of tuna, an apple, and nothing else. It’s every day.
His Workout: To bulk up after deflating for The Machinist, Bale had to kick-start the metabolism, which had been damaged by starvation. He used heavy weight lifting, strength training, and plyometric circuit training, adding many sprints, lunges, squats, chin-ups, and high pulls to martial arts training.
Plus: Bale wanted to get down to 100 pounds for The Machinist. But the filmmakers advised him it would be too dangerous to his health.
Christian says, “I did the American Psycho, and I just bulked up on that aspect of it. But people are now starting, ‘Oh yeah, that guy’s a total fitness freak,’ because that’s not me, that’s Patrick Bateman. It was an excellent way to kill the dead by annihilating your body.”
Let’s head towards a very loved celebrity Nick Jonas’ fitness transformation.
Nick Jonas
He Did: Nick Jonas underwent a major fitness transformation after breaking out as part of the Jonas Brothers Music Group. Starting with a boy band-style image, Jonas turned into a cut, jacked, and muscle-bound solo artist.
Why He Did It: Jonas, along with his popularity in the music industry, received attention for his acting in films such as Careful What You Wish For and Goat.
His Workout: Jonas detailed the workout for Men’s Fitness, which helped the actor/singer take shape.
Plus: Jonas will have the opportunity to show off his success alongside an ultra-fit funny guy and October 2016 Men’s Fitness cover star Kevin Hart and the world’s top-paid actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the new Jumanji sequel.
Who would want to miss the fitness transformation of one of the funniest on-screen celebrity, Kevin Hart.
Kevin Hart
What He Did:: Hart and his trainer Ron “Boss” Everline built his upper body. By 2016, he would have become muscular, cut, and trained enough to run marathons.
Why He Did It: It’s not that Hart wasn’t fit when he first started as a stand-up comedian—but he was, as he said in his Men’s Fitness cover story, It looked like I was in shape, but then you ripped off my shirt, and it was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’
His Workout: The superstar comedian worked hard at the gym with Everline to develop his stamina, and he also partnered with Nike to help promote running. As detailed in his Men’s Fitness workout, Hart keeps it easy, which means no Olympic lifts or fancy machines — he uses bench press, push-ups, rows, curls, and dips in his routine.
Plus: Hart showed his acting skills alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Central Intelligence, and he may like to continue going ahead in the genre: “What’s the Kevin Hart version of Mission Impossible? What is my [James] Bond?
Kevin says, “I don’t want to be a man with a neck.” But he’s ready to keep smashing it, and that’s why he’s the 2016 Game Changer.
This celebrity transformation will be a fun one to read.
Michael Moore
What He Did: Checking at Pritikin Longevity Center and Salon, Miami’s $4500-a-week premium weight-loss salon, helped the owner of Fahrenheit 9/11 and Sicko lose 70 pounds.
Why He did it: Moore just got sick of being overweight and tried to be healthy.
He ate: Fiber-rich food (at least 35 grams a day!), making sure he was fueling himself with rich yet low-calorie food. Roger Ebert gets Moore hooked on Pritikin, which theorizes that eating fatty food naturally does the same thing as gastric bypass, helping you feel full faster. He cut salt, white flour, and sugar when he was most concerned about losing weight.
His Workout: You’re not going to see Moore doing the 300-rep Spartan exercise at the gym — his main priority was on “eating less crap and moving around more.” Hey. It’s better than nothing at all.
Plus: Moore claims that all overweight people have three things in common.
Number One: We all drink diet soda but never lose weight because it’s so filled with salt that it works against you, so it breaks down the cellular system by retaining fluid;
Number two: overweight people sleep less than seven hours a night, never get a full night’s sleep, which allows you to binge during the day to make up for it because you’re tired, you need energy; and
Number three: We stop eating when we try not to eat, and then we get hungry because we don’t eat.
Michael says, Where I come from the Midwest, I’m considered to be normal. It’s not healthy.
